Hoy en Montessori Stories tengo como invitada a Olga del Río, nos conocimos hace poco en el Encuentro Montessori de familias y educadores y hoy nos va a contar un poco más sobre su relación con Montessori y su proyecto Ambiente Montessori Montepríncipe, un espacio que ofrece ambientes de Nido (6 meses a 12/15 meses) y Comunidad Infantil (12/15 meses a 3 años), y que que abre sus puertas este mes de Mayo. Os dejo con la entrevista que le he hecho a Olga.
¿Cómo conociste Montessori? Soy psicóloga especialista en dificultades de aprendizaje, llevo 5 años trabajando con niños de 6 a 16 años con algún problema escolar. Ahí nació mi interés por buscar una metodología adecuada para enseñar a estos niños a leer, escribir, concentrarse más tiempo...Y me encontré con los materiales Montessori. Empecé a incorporarlos en mi gabinete, pero lo realmente enriquecedor y revolucionario para mí fue estudiar su pedagogía, filosofía, en definitiva el método. Me di cuenta que cuando estos chicos eran respetados en sus ritmos e intereses algo cambiaba en ellos y ¡¡¡pum!!! Todo cobraba sentido para ellos y aprendían con menos dificultad.

Los proyectos comienzan por una serie de motivaciones, las mías fueron mis hijos y las dificultades de aprendizaje de los niños con los que trabajo día a día: déficit de atención y también dificultades en lectura y escritura. Allí nace mi interés de encontrar una forma de respetar sus ritmos y sus intereses. Así como, que dejen de sentirse excluidos porque no cumplen con los criterios establecidos en la escuela tradicional. Olga de Río

Today on Montessori Stories I have a guest Olga del Río. We met recently at the Encuentro Montessori de familias y educadores and today she will share with us a bit more about her Montessori journey and her project Ambiente Montessori Montepríncipe, which opens its doors this month of May. I leave you with the interview.
How did you first get to know about Montessori? I am a psychologist with a speciality on learning disabilities and I have 5 years working with children 6 to 16 years with a school problem. That is what raised my interest in finding an appropriate methodology to teach these children to read, write, focus for longer periods of time... And I found the Montessori materials. I began to incorporate them into my work with these children, but what was really enriching and revolutionary for me was to study the pedagogy, philosophy, ultimately the method. I realized that when these kids were respected in their rhythms and interests something changed in them and bam!!! Everything made sense for them and learned with less difficulty. How did the idea of creating Montepríncipe Montessori Environment? It is a matter of trying to contribute our bit to make a change in education. We truly believe that the most important stage in a child's life is from 0 to 6 years and is in those years in which we want to give all our training, respect, understanding and tolerance. How do you help families learn more about the Montessori pedagogy? We are just beginning, but we plan workshops and lectures so families can continue in their homes the work their kids do in school. Our guide also is a consultant on breastfeeding, BLW and well, both of us are mothers who practice the method at home and our experience is at the service of our families. Have you found many obstacles to move forward with your project? How has it ben received? Bureaucratically speaking yes, but we have also received many visits from parents interested in this type of education, so we are happy because something is changing. Any advice or suggestion for those who have in mind the idea of creating an alternative educational project like yours but end up settling? Go for it, no doubts, it is difficult of course, but I would have done everything possible so my children could have had something like this, it is vocational. If you believe in the great work, the great responsibility we Montessorians have to spread the method, I think it´s very difficult to look away and not give our children the opportunity to grow up happy and respected.*
Projects start for a number of reasons, mine were my children and the children with learning difficulties with whom I work every day: attention deficit and difficulties in reading and writing. There comes my interest to find a way to respect their rhythms and interests. And to stop them feeling excluded because they do not meet the criteria set out in the traditional school. Olga del Río
